“Teva is one of the world’s largest producers of generic medicine. One in five to one in twelve prescriptions in Western countries such as Germany, the US and the UK, is filled by Teva. You would think that such a pharmaceutical company, that states its commitment to health for all worldwide, has a stellar track record for corporate social responsibility. Nothing could be further from the truth.

From the inception of Israel in 1948, Teva’s leadership have steered the company towards furthering the entrenchment of the Zionist project and settler- colonialism. It is also historically and currently one of the biggest companies in the country. Its factories stand on ethnically cleansed land. Since a few days after the beginning of the genocide in October 2023, Teva chose to politically align itself with the genocide state. It released supportive statements, and materially committed itself fully to aiding the IDF with donations and access to their distribution network. They recommitted investments with government organisations that produce drones, weapons and surveillance tech. The role that Teva plays in Israel cannot be understated.

The cruel irony is that a pharmaceutical company is complicit- and benefitting from the policies of its government, which so inhumanely withholds medicine from an oppressed population. This cannot continue.

We call upon health care workers worldwide to boycott Teva. 95% of Teva’s billions in profits come from abroad, which makes us uniquely positioned to exert pressure from abroad. Where a boycott is not possible, make it known to decision-makers that Teva is not welcome. In the Netherlands, significant reductions in the purchase of Teva by insurance companies have been made, by asking the population to send complaints and e-mails.
